Food Preparation . Places where food is prepared have been visited on 254 occasions, improvements being required in 44 instances, as detailed below:—

The 44 instances where matters needed attention included 35
cases where the premises generally, or kitchen and scullery particularly,
needed cleansing and lime-washing, 5 where the sanitary
arrangements were defective, 1 for want of ashpit and 3 other
minor defects.
Customs and Inland Revenue Acts. Three applications
with respect to 21 tenements were received during the year for
certificates under these Acts, but no certificate was granted, for
the alterations required were not carried out by the applicant.
Housing of the Working Classes. Premises have been found
to be overcrowded in 33 cases, which have all been abated. Two
hundred and twelve houses have been generally repaired; 275
premises have been cleansed, lime-washed, and repaired; 122 have
