gutters have been repaired in 450 cases: nuisances from dampness
have been abated in 230 cases; dampness of walls have been
remedied in 135 cases; direct connection between the internal sanitary
fittings of houses and the drain have been disconnected,
trapped and amended in 327 cases; similarly 86 stack pipes have
been disconnected, trapped and amended ; 37 houses have
been abolished as unfit for habitation : 2 have been closed
through non-compliance with notices; and other nuisances, principally
of dilapidations and want of underfloor ventilation have
also been attended to in 84 cases.
During the year 486 houses in this district have been inspected
under the Housing and Town Planning Act, 1909, the records
of such properties being duly filed. Of this number, nuisances
or defects were found in 424 cases, concerning which houses
the necessary notices under the Public Health (London) Act,
1891, were served. Of these 424 houses thus dealt with,
in 17 cases the landlord voluntarily elected to close the
property instead of complying with the notices, and 9 of these 17
were demolished. In 338 cases the notices were satisfactorily
complied with, leaving 69 cases still in hand or otherwise undisposed
of at the end of the year.
