Food Preparation. Places where food is prepared have been visited on 248 occasions, improvements being required in 47 instances, as detailed below:—

The 47 instances where matters needed attention included 37
cases where the premises generally, or kitchen and scullery particularly,
needed cleansing and lime-washing, leaving 10 other
minor defects.
Customs and Inland Revenue Acts. One application with
respect to three tenements was received during the year for certificates
under these Acts, but no certificate was granted for the
alterations required were not carried out by the applicant.
Housing of the Working Classes. Premises have been found
to be overcrowded in 29 cases, which have all been abated, and in 2
cases the illegal use of underground rooms has been discontinued.
Three hundred and twenty-four houses have been generally
repaired; 374 premises have been cleansed, limewashed, and repaired:
222 have been improved as regards their ventilation; 349
premises have had the walls and ceilings cleansed throughout, and
247 premises have been partially cleansed: leaky house roofs and
