BIRTHS.
The total number of births in the Borough during the year
has been 2,492, but of these 45 occurred in Greenwich Union
Infirmary, the address of the mother being in 45 cases in Deptford
; deducting these and adding 8 which were transferred from
Stepney, Lambeth and St. Marylebone, it will be seen that the
number of strictly Greenwich births for 1909 is 2,455, of which
1,262 were males and 1,193 females.
This corrected figure gives a birth rate of 22.19 per 1,000 of
the population, being the lowest on record, and 3.84 below the
average for the last eight years, 1901 to 1908, the period since
the formation of the Metropolitan Borough.
