Report on the sanitary condition of the Hackney District for the year 1911

This case was first seen by one medical practitioner on the 22nd
April who treated the infant for diarrhoea until the 29th April
She was subsequently seen by another practitioner who notifed the
case as enteric fever on May 12th. The diagnosis of this case was
based on the examination of the infant's blood by means of
Widal's test—a positive reaction resulting. This case had apparently
recovered when the test was applied, but the history of a
prolonged attack of diarrhoea together with history of the other
cases in the family raised more than a suspicion that baby's attack
was something more than infantile diarrhoea.
