1911. The corrected general death-rate for the year 1910 was
12.3 per 1,000 of the population so that the death-rate for 1911 is
2.71 per 1,000 living higher than the rate for the previous year.
The causes of this are several. During last year there was an actual
increase in the number of deaths over that of the previous year to
the extent of 332. These deaths were chiefly brought about by an
outbreak of measles in the earlier months and an excess of diarrhoea
during the third quarter of the year. It must also be mentioned
that for some years the population has been over-estimated, which
has helped to show the death-rate somewhat lower during the last
few years prior to the census of 1911, than it would have appeared
had the data been available for a more accurate estimate of
population.

Amongst the sub-districts the death rate was lowest in the north sub-district (11. 8 per 1,000) and highest in the south-east sub-district (17.4 per 1,000).
