Report on the health of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea for the year 1912

Revenue Act, 1903.
During 1912 three applications were received for the
certificate of the Medical Officer of Health under the provisions
of the Revenue Act, 1903, in respect of 18 tenements
(or dwelling's) so constructed as to afford suitable accommodation
for each of the families inhabiting such tenements. After
inspection, certificates were granted in respect of 9 tenements, the
remainder having been refused or postponed.
Water Supply.
During 1912 66 applications were received for certificates of
water supply in accordance with sec. 48 of the Public Health
(London) Act, 1891, and granted in each instance.
Notices of withdrawal of water supply for various reasons
were received from the Metropolitan Water Board.

Water supplies to Upper Floors. —Additional water supplies to the upper floors of tenement houses under the provisions of sec. 78 London County Council (General Powers) Act, and sec. 48 Public Health (London) Act, 1891, were required by notice served upon the owners, and duly complied with during 1912 as follows:

Disinfecting' Department.
During 1912 3,793 rooms and 43,920 articles were disinfected
by the Council's Disinfecting Staff, as compared with 4,711 rooms
and 38,952 articles in 1911.
A total number of 826 cases of notifiable infectious diseases
was reported during the year, but in addition to these a large
amount of disinfection was carried out in connection with nonnotifiable
diseases, e.g., measles, whooping-cough, etc., and in
connection with verminous premises,
