Report on the health of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea for the year 1912

Diarrhœa.
During 1912 the number of deaths from zymotic diarrhœa
registered as belonging to Battersea was 13, as compared with 159
in 1911. The death-rate was 0.07 per 1,000, or 0.61 below the
decennial average of 0.68. Of the 13 deaths from summer diarrhœa .
10 (i.e. 77 per cent.) were of children under five years of age and
7 (i.e., 54 per cent.) were of children under one year of age.
During 1911, of the 159 deaths from diarrhoea, 113 (i.e., 71 per
cent.) were of infants under one year old.

The number of deaths and the death-rate in the sub-districts in 1912, 1911, and 1910 were as follows:-

Of the seven deaths of infants under one year old from zymotic
diarrhoea, six occurred in the third quarter of the year, distributed
as follows in the three sub-districts of the Borough: East Battersea,
1; North-West Battersea, 5; South-West Battersea, nil.
