Report on the health of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea for the year 1912

During the year 21 cases (i.e., 9.0 per cent.) notified as
diphtheria and removed to hospital were found not to be suffering
from the disease and were discharged to their homes.
Five-hundred and fifty-four bacteriological examinations of
suspected cases of diphtheria were made during 1912, as compared
with 384 in 1911 and 410 in 1910. In 135 a positive, and in 419
a negative, result was obtained.
Enteric Fever.
During 1912, twenty cases of enteric fever were notified in the
Borough of Battersea, being exactly equal to the number notified
in 1911, and as compared with 41 in 1910. Two deaths were
registered from the disease, giving a case mortality of 10 per cent.,
and a death-rate per 1,000 population of 0.01.
This was equal to the lowest number of cases and deathrate
recorded in the Old Parish or Borough of Battersea.
