Although the bye-laws only call for cleansing operations once
at least in every year in the month of April, yet, if these houses
are found to be dirty or insanitary or in any condition which may
interfere with the reasonable and healthful comfort of the occupants,
abatement or remedy may be requested or secured at any
time, in any month, under the provisions of the Public Health
(London) Act, 1891.
The bye-laws do not contain clauses dealing with the separation
of the sexes.
During 1909 the number of notices served for cleansing was
1,145 intimation notices and 277 statutory notices when the
cleansing was not done by the time of the second visit.
Notices for overcrowding were served in 46 cases.
