Arising out of the Guardians' supplementary precept the
Council communicated with the Local Government Board
requesting that a special inquiry be held, or an investigation
made by its Auditors into the Guardians' expenditure, for the
information of the Council and the Ratepayers generally.
The Local Government Board subsequently directed a
Public Inquiry to be held into the expenditure of the Guardians
in connection with their new Workhouse and Infirmary, but
the general expenditure of that Board was not included within
the scope of the Inquiry.
The Supplemental Precept involved an increase in the
rate of Fourpence in the £, and this amount was added to the
rate made for the half year ending Michaelmas, 1907.
