Report on the sanitary condition of the Hackney District for the year 1910

(4) That the Medical Officer of Health obtain the necessary
books, &c., for keeping a complete record of the inspections
made, and any action taken by the local authority thereon.
(5) That the Committee take into consideration once a
month in accordance with Article IV. the records kept in
pursuance of Article III. of the Regulations.
These resolutions were approved of and adopted by the Borough
Council on the 27th October.
THE RIVER LEA.
Owing to the low atmospheric temperature of the summer
months of 1910, there was an absence of complaints of nuisance
from this river, but in the month of June I had a sample of the river
water taken and submitted to the public Analyst for chemical
examination. Below is a copy of his report.
REPORT ON A SAMPLE OF WATER.
Received from the Hackney Borough Council on June 16th,
1910:—
Sample Mark—River Lee.
Particulars of Source—River Lee at foot of Little Hill,
Upper Clapton.
Physical Examination.
Suspended Matter—Considerable.
Appearance of a Column two feet in length—Opaque, light
yellowish brown.
Taste—Slight earthy.
Odour—Absent.
