71 visits of inspection to these premises during the year, and
found all the meat used sound and free from disease.
Smoke Nuisance.—During last year the Smoke Inspector
made 1,356 observations of chimneys of factories, workshops,
and other places in the Borough. These observations lasted
from half-an-hour upwards. The intimation notices served
calling attention to this nuisance numbered 37.
Water Supply.—Section 48 (2) Public Health (London) Act,
1891. Under this section 40 certificates of proper and sufficient
supply of water were issued to owners of new or re-built dwelling
houses in the Borough. The certificates refer to 94 houses and
tenements.
By-laws for Houses let in Lodgings.—During 1909 the
whole of the occupied houses in the Borough registered under
the above by-laws were inspected. The number registered is
463, of which 22G are situate in Hackney Wick and 237 in the
London Fields districts. The following tables give details as
to the inspections and the defects found:—
