The object of the Order is not only to prevent the spread of
this disease amongst animals, but also to prevent infection of human
beings.
On the reception of the notice of a case of the disease in the
Borough, I instruct one of the Inspectors to visit the premises
where the case has occurred, and to report to me what disinfection
has been taken and also the measures which have been adopted to
prevent the spread of infection.
During the year there were 17 cases of glanders notified. Upon
inspection of the premises in which the cases had occurred, enquiries
were also made as to the health of the stablemen and others; but on
no occasion did it appear that human infection had arisen from any
of the cases notified.
HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT, 1890-1903.
No representation was made under the above Acts during the
past year.
THE RIVER LEA.
The condition of the water of this river shows no sign of
improvement.
