Preserved Provision Factories.—There are eight of these
premises in the Borough. The Inspector reports that he made 76
visits to these places during the year, and found all the carcases and
meat used on these occasions to be free from disease.
Smoke Nuisances.—During 1908 the Smoke Inspector made
1,480 observations of chimneys of factories, workshops and other
places in the Borough. These observations lasted from half-an-hour
upwards. Intimation notices for the abatement of smoke nuisances
were served to the number of 46, and Statutory notices to the
number of two. One summons was issued for smoke nuisance, and
an order on the defendant was made to abate the nuisance and to
pay £1 3s. costs.
Water Supply.—Section 48 (2) Public Health (London) Act,
1891. Under this Section 42 certificates of proper and sufficient
supply of water were issued to owners of new or rebuilt dwelling
houses in the Borough. The certificates refer to 97 houses and
tenements.
By -laws for Houses let in Lodgings. — During 1908 the
whole of the occupied registered houses let in lodgings in the
Borough were inspected. The number registered is 463, of which
226 are situate in Hackney Wick, and 237 in the London Fields
Districts.
