The death rate from this disease for all London for the same
period is 1.06 per 1,000 living.
ALCOHOLISM.
During 1907 there were 9 deaths caused by acute alcoholic
poisoning. In addition 26 deaths were ascribed to cirrhosis of the
liver, a disease due in most cases to excessive indulgence in alcohol
extending over considerable periods.
VACCINATION.
The following is a summary of the Supplementary Returns
made by the Vaccination Officers respecting the vaccination of
children whose births were registered in Hackney from the
1st January to 31st December, 1907, inclusive. During this period
there were 5,812 births registered, and of this number 3,247 were
successfully vaccinated. Of the remainder, certificates of conscientious
objections were received in 228 births, 562 died unvaccinated,
vaccination was postponed on a medical certificate in 23 cases,
1,047 removed to other districts or to unknown places, and 470 are
entered as not being accounted for. The Returns also show that
there were 3,323 successful primary vaccinations at all ages during
the year 1908.
