LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL (GENERAL POWERS) ACT, 1907
Sections 36 and 37.
On letter from the London County Council, dated 12th
February, 1908, calling attention to Sections 36 and 37 of the London
County Council (General Powers) Act, 1907, with reference to the
cleansing of verminous [persons, and asking, before they make any
definite arrangements to put the Act in force, to be favoured with
information as to the extent of the provision already existing in the
Borough of Hackney in regard to disinfection, &c., and the facilities
which the Hackney Borough Council would be prepared to afford
the Council in the matter.
The Medical Officer of Health submitted the following
Memorandum:—
Memorandum on the means provided by the Hackney Borough
Council for dealing with verminous persons under the Cleansing of
Persons Act—by the Medical Officer of Health:—
1. Two bath rooms are provided, each containing one bath, full
size, with hot and cold water, &c. These bath-rooms are
quite separate and have separate entrances. One is
reserved for males, and one for females. Each bath-room
is provided with a hopper arrangement, communicating
with the infected side of the disinfecting chamber, to
receive the infected clothes for disinfection while persons
are being bathed.
2. The duty of the staff at the cleansing station is to keep the
bath and bath-room clean, to get the bath ready with soap,
towels, and dressing-gown, and to disinfect the clothing.
Hitherto we have insisted upon the parent or some adult
attending with the children to superintend the cleansing of
the child. In a few cases the hair of children attending
to be cleansed has been cut by one of the staff.
