CUSTOMS AND INLAND REVENUE ACTS,
1890 TO 1903.
Only two applications were received; both were
refused.
They were in respect of:—
105 and 107, Sclater Street. Six tenements;
separate W.C. and water supply are not
provided to each.
1 to 8, Merceron Street. Twenty-one tenements;
the lower portions of six of the houses are
occupied as shops and not as dwellings.
Tenements are not self-contained, that is to
say, each is unprovided with separate W.C.,
water tap, sink and copper.
During the year a very large amount of good work
has been carried out in a thoroughly satisfactory manner
by the staff under Mr. Foot's control, details of which
will be found in his report appended hereto.
The change from the old offices in Paradise Row to
the palatial building in Cambridge Road was managed
with a minimum of inconvenience to the public; and
now that we are settled in our new quarters, in which I
am specially favoured, I find the great advantage of all
the departments being housed under one roof.
To you, Sir, and to the Members of the Council, my
best thanks are due for much consideration and kindness.
I have the honour to be,
Sir, and Gentlemen,
Your very obedient servant,
GEORGE PADDOCK BATE.
