Apart from disinfecting in notified cases, it is the rule to disinfect
whenever possible after death has occurred from phthisis.
During the year, disinfection was carried out in 30 cases after notification,
and after death in 42 instances.
At the beginning of 1909 certain new regulations with regard to
phthisis came into force, and it is proposed to consider the disease
more fully in the report for that year.
Bacteriological examinations of 21 specimens of sputa from doubtful
cases were made during 1908. Of these 3 were found to contain the
bacillus of tuberculosis, and in 18 the result was negative.
Other Forms of Tuberculosis.—As these are not notifiable
they are dealt with under the heading—Deaths in Relation to
Disease at page .59.
