The total number of factories given in the second table (872), it
will be noted, does not correspond with the number (828) stated
to be registered. This is accounted for by the fact that a number of
the factories are " tenement factories," in which various businesses
are carried on.
INSPECTION OF WORKSHOPS, &c.
The total number of visits made during the year by the Workshops
Inspector was 3,466. In addition, 30 visits were made by
the Women Inspectors, and the District Inspectors, in the course of
their other work, inspected 12 workshops.
A summary of the work done in connection with these visits is
contained in the accompanying Table, but certain matters regarding
the sanitary condition of workshops call for spccial mention.
