This from an experienced sausage maker seemed
somewhat quaint and on legal proceedings being
taken he was fined £5.
2. A tuberculous fore quarter of beef was found by
Mr. Rowsell in a shop in Cambridge Road.
Pleura stripped and sternal gland removed; other
glands except dorsal gland tuberculous. Apparently
cowbeef. Owner had reputation for selling
old cow beef. Soon after surrender of this fore
quarter the shop was closed.
3. A tuberculous fore quarter of beef which had been
passed elsewhere previous to examination by
this Authority was found by Inspector Rowsell at
Pollard Street in December. There were certain
technical difficulties about both the above beef
cases consequently the retail men were allowed
to surrender and were cautioned.
4. On the 27th February, a fowl said to have been
bought the previous night from a man standing
in Bethnal Green Road was brought to the
office by a purchaser, a woman. The fowl looked
very plump and seemed a heavy bird but was
found subsequently to be stuffed with sand and
sacking. Apart from this stuffing the fowl was
in a most emaciated condition. A condemnation
order was granted by the Magistrate as a
necessary precedent to taking legal proceedings
but the vendor could not be traced.
Chicken and
Sand.
A post mortem was conducted by Dr. John Bate
on the body of the fowl which was found to be
roupy and emaciated and had probably died a
natural death, or at best had been slain to
prevent its dying.
