Other New
Legislation
The remaining new legislation calling for note as affecting
health authorities is:—
1. The Factory and Workshop Act, 1907, and
2. The Public Health (Regulations as to Food) Act,
1907.
Laundries.
The first does not materially concern us, but is apparently
intended to bring the Laundries of certain Institutions under
inspection and the requirements of the Act. It also appears to
make places where only one woman is employed subject to the
requirements.
Regulations as
to Food Act.
The Public Health (Regulations as to Food) Act is a much
more important matter, and it is to be hoped the regulations
when formulated will prove to be of some practical value and
helpful to the local authority and its officers in their efforts to
secure a pure and wholesome food supply to the people of their
borough. If on the lines of many of our recent reforms of the
food laws they will not be of any particular value, except perhaps
to the lawyers.
Discontinuance
of Water Supply
Notice by
Metropolitan
Water Board.
During the year 105 Notices were received from the Metropolitan
Water Board under Section 49, Public Health (London)
Act, 1891, giving notice of the discontinuance of water supply to
premises throughout the Borough. The majority of the cases
arose from defective pipes and fittings. Close observation was
in all cases maintained in order to secure the continuance of the
supply at the earliest possible moment.

during 1907 were as follows:—
