Cesspools.—It is not a little remarkable that notwithstanding the large
number of cesspools that have been abolished in past years in the borough that
they still continue to be discovered. During the year no less than 47 were
abolished, while in 1903 43 were done away with. Thirteen were discovered
in No. 13 (Inspector Rolfe's) district, which contains a large part of Upper
Street, and the streets abutting on it, as well as some of the oldest houses in
Islington.
Overcrowding.—138 cases of overcrowding were discovered, which, together
with the 69 discovered by the Inspectors of Houses let in lodgings make
a total of 207 cases dealt with during the year.
