DEATHS IN PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS.
Within the Borough.—385 deaths occurred in the Public Institutions
of Islington, of which only 222 could be described as belonging to this
borough, the remaining 163 having only come here for treatment or relief.
Among the latter were 136 persons who died in the Holborn Infirmary and 14
other persons who died in the Great Northern Central Hospital.
Of the 222 deaths of inhabitants, 168 occurred in the Islington Infirmary,
24 in the Islington Workhouses, and 21 in the Great Northern Central
Hospital. The proportion which the 222 deaths bore to the total mortality
was 16.0 per cent.
Without the Borough—166 deaths of persons belonging to Islington
were registered as occurring in Public Institutions in other parts of London
outside the Borough. These included, amongst others, 25 in the North-Eastern
Fever Hospital, 6 in University Hospital, 4 in the Eastern Fever Hospital, 10
in the Childrens' Hospital, Great Ormond Street, 13 in St. Bartholomew's
Hospital, 14 in the Colney Hatch Asylum, 10 in the Royal Free Hospital, and
7 in the Hanwell Asylum.
These 166 deaths represented 12.0 per cent. of all the deaths registered in
the quarter.
Within and Without the Borough.—These deaths numbered 551,
and were equal to 39.8 per cent. of the total deaths registered during the first
quarter.
Fatal Accidents or Sudden Deaths outside the Borough.—Six
inhabitants died from accidental deaths, or suddenly in places outside
Islington.
It may be of interest to contrast the foregoing figures with those of
preceding years.
