THE STATE OF PAUPERISM.
The return for the year shows that there was an increase of 986 on the
average number relieved per week, the actual figures being 7,668, as against an
average, extending over six years, of 6,782. The return also indicates an
increase of 341 on the preceding year, and a decrease of 709 on 1900.
The average weekly number of indoor paupers for the year was 3,594,
and of outdoor 4,074.
Vagrants evidently did not find pleasant quarters in Islington, for the
weekly average was only 10, compared with a weekly average during the
preceding six years of 18.
Children boarded out averaged 125 per week, which is an increase of 8 on the average of six years, although 5 less than in 1901.
