Work done at the Disinfecting Station.—The work done at this
station was, in consequence of Small Pox, much heavier than usual. No less
than 36,772 separate articles, including many bundles containing small
clothes, were disinfected. With the exception of 1896 this was the largest
number hitherto dealt with by the steam disinfectors, which as usual worked
most admirably. The two machines were used alternately, week about, so
that there was never any delay caused by the necessity for repairs, such as
would have occurred if there had been only one machine, and as did occur on
