Isolation Shelter, During the year this shelter has not
been in use at any time. It is always kept clean, aired, and in
readiness for the reception of persons; but in the absence of any
serious outbreak it does not appear to have been required.
Contacts. Information still continues to be received from
time to time from the various Port and other Sanitary Authorities
respecting persons coming into this district who have been in
contact with infectious cases. This has principally been in connection
with Transports bringing home soldiers, and the disease
chiefly concerned, Small-pox; seven such contacts were notified
from Gosport, six from Southampton, and five from the Port of
London, whilst one Plague contact was reported from Leith
Each of these persons has been kept under observation, but in no
instance has illness developed. The solitary case of a contact
who did develop the illness, but of whose arrival we had not been
advised because he gave a wrong address to the Port Authorities,
has been dealt with in an earlier part of this Report.
Information has been received during the year as to a patient
suffering from Leprosy who has come to reside in the district.
This person has also been kept under observation.
Consumption. During the year there were 109 cases of
Consumption voluntarily notified, 44 being in East Greenwich,
37 in West Greenwich, 20 in St. Nicholas, and 8 in Charlton. Of
this number 13 cases were under treatment in an Institution.
The ages of the patients were 2 under 1 year of age, 1 between
1 and 5 years, 9 between 5 and 15 years, 19 between 15 and 25,
76 between 25 and 65 years, and 2 over 65 years.
