Cancer.—The number of deaths from this cause recorded in the
Borough of Hackney during 1905 was 203. This is equal to a
mortality rate of .90 per 1,000 persons living.

ALCOHOLISM.
During 1905 there were 8 deaths registered as due to acute and
chronic alcoholism. In addition there were 33 deaths registered
from cirrhosis of tha liver, a disease which in most cases is caused
by the excessive indulgence in alcohol.
