enteric fever on the 19th July, on which date she was removed to
the Fever Hospital.
George B., aged 19 years, brother of above, fell ill on about the
23rd July. He was notified as suffering from enteric fever on the
27th July, and was removed to the Fever Hospital on the same day.
These three persons lived with their parents at the above address,
in a tenement consisting of two rooms only. George and Sidney
slept in the same bed. Elizabeth slept in the same bed with a
lodger's child, who is stated to have suffered from diarrhoea earlier.
The exact date could not be ascertained. The circumstances of the
family were those of the casual labouring class.
On inspection of the premises no nuisance was discovered.
Group 3.—Amelia and Elizabeth H., aged 10 and 6 years respectively,
of 11, M. Road, are said to have fallen ill on or about the
same date, viz., 23rd September. They were notified as suffering
from enteric fever on the same day, and removed to the Fever
Hospital on 25th September. Enquiries led to the information that
three weeks before these fell ill another child of the family, Alice
May H., age 2½ years, fell ill with diarrhoea and sickness. This
child attended the out-patient's department of the Infirmary, where
she was treated. The child's illness is said to have lasted 15 or
16 days. This family consisted of father, mother, and four children.
They occupied a tenement of four rooms. The father was a typecaster,
working at his trade in the City. The defects found on
inspection were defective gutters, kitchen ceiling dirty, manhole
cover in back yard imperfectly sealed.
Group 4.—Mary H., aged 44 years, married, 5, W. Road,
fell ill about the 7th October, 1905, and was notified on the 17th
October as suffering from enteric fever. She was removed on the
same date to the fever hospital. Daisy H., aged 7 years, daughter
of the above, fell ill about 18th October, was notified as suffering
from enteric fever on the 19th October, and was removed to the
Fever Hospital on the next day. Daisy is said to have slept with
her mother in the same bed prior to her removal to hospital.
