THE SEVEN PRINCIPAL ZYMOTIC DISEASES.
The total number of Zymotic deaths, including those of 55
persons who died in the Hospitals of the Asylums Board, was
289, as against 339 in 1902, a decrease of 50.
The total 289 Zymotic deaths were 145 below the decennial
average for the ten years 1893 to 1902. Table V. in the
appendix shews this average to be 434.
TABLE D.

---|---|---|
Small Pox | — | 64 |

Scarlet Fever | 13 | 19 |
Diphtheria | 26 | 33 |
Whooping Cough | 41 | 89 |
Typhus Fever | — | — |
Enteric Fever | 12 | 14 |

289 | 339 |
From an inspection of the table above it may be noted that
with the exception of measles and diarrhœa, the mortality from
all other Zymotic diseases has decreased, and that this decrease
is most marked under the heads of whooping cough, scarlet fever
and diphtheria. On the other hand, the deaths from diarrhoea
have almost doubled, whilst those from measles have largely
increased.
