In his visits the Inspector met with a Canal Boat which was
worked entirely by women. There was a lady-captain and three
other women in the boat.
The floods of last year seriously delayed the Canal Boats in their
journeys. In some places the boats were unable to pass under the
bridges owing to the abnormal rise of the water.
° The term children should be understood to include only those at ages as
stated in the Acts, viz. ;—under the age of twelve years.
