The total record for 1903 is as follows:—
Houses closed in 1903. | Persons Dishoused in 1903. (Approximate Number.) | |
---|---|---|
Five Insanitary Areas (L.C.C.) | 59 | 593 |
Insanitary Closures (F.B.C.) | 21 | 133 |
Closures for Commercial reasons, Street Widening, &c. | 81 | 623 |

Last year 140 houses were closed and 839 persons were dishoused;
the total for the two years is therefore 301 houses and
2,188 persons. It is unnecessary to add that there are considerable
changes taking place in the use of house property, e.g.,
private dwelling-houses being transformed into business premises
without closure or demolition of houses, and which are not
included in the above returns.
Lastly, we have endeavoured to trace the destination of the
removals in the closed properties under our jurisdiction, that is
to say, the removals from the closed areas C and E and from
the houses closed for street improvements, &c.
