as compared with 13.6 in 1902. This figure of ll.l has, of course,
no value except for local comparative purposes.
The following table from the preliminary returns of the RegistrarGeneral
compares the birth rates and death rates of London, Finsbury,
and the neighbouring central districts of the Metropolis for
1903 after distribution of deaths in public institutions. The rates
for Hampstead, one of the healthiest districts in London, have also
been added for purposes of comparison.
