Pneumonia, and Pleurisy, being at the rate of: St. Nicholas 4.6
per 1,000, West Greenwich 2.8 per 1,000, East Greenwich 1.9 per
1,000, Charlton 1.6 per 1,000, and Kidbrooke 0.6 per 1,000.
Digestive System. Eighty-five deaths, equalling a death
rate of 0'85 per 1,000 are ascribed to this class of disease. Enteritis
being credited with 20 deaths, 15 to Obstruction of the
Intestines, and 20 to Cirrhosis and other diseases of the Liver.
Urinary System. Forty-one deaths, equalling a death rate
of 0.41 per 1,000, are ascribed to this class, of which the greater
proportion, i.e., 25, are due to Bright's Disease.
External Causes, such as Accidents, Homicide, and
Suicides, are credited with 62 deaths, 51 being Accidents, 2 cases
of Homicide, and 9 cases of Suicide. The accidents include 3 in
vehicular traffic, 3 upon railways, 2 upon ships, boats, or docks, 9
by burns or scalds, 1 from poison, 8 from drowning, 8 from suffocation
from overlying in bed, 5 from suffocation in other ways, 7
from falls, and 1 the actual condition of which is not stated. The
cases of Homicide include 1 in East Greenwich and 1 in West
Greenwich. Of the cases of Suicide 4 were in East Greenwich,
1 in West Greenwich, 3 in Charlton, and 1 in Kidbrooke.
Mortuary. During the year the supervision and control of
Mortuaries in the Borough has been transferred to the Public
Health Committee, and at the time of drawing up this Report
the question of the provision of suitable Mortuary accommodation
is advancing very rapidly.
