Bethnal Green is divided for registration purposes into three subdistricts ;
and the table overleaf shews the births registered in each
during the year 1902. The populations shewn in the same table are
estimates formed upon the numbers of births registered in each subdistrict
during 1902, as compared with those in the census year,
when the actual inhabitants in each sub-district were counted. The
population of the South sub-district has increased, that of the North
is nearly stationary, whilst the East appears to have decreased in
numbers.
DEATHS.
The District Registrars forwarded to me particulars of 2,522
deaths in Bethnal Green, indicative of a crude death rate of 18.5,
but amongst the deaths so registered, are included those of 245 nonresidents
who died in Bethnal Green Hospitals ; in arriving at a
correct death rate, these must be excluded. On the other hand, the
Somerset House authorities have forwarded to me particulars of the
deaths of 470 persons ordinarily resident in Bethnal Green, but registered
as having died in public institutions outside our boundaries.
After adding these deaths, and subtracting those of the non residents,
there remains a net total of 2,747.

The deaths in each sub-district, corrected by the distribution of institution deaths, both within and without our boundaries, were as under:—
