of the lamps can be commenced, and considering the importance
of carrying out the proposed works in the streets during
the vacation, when traffic is light, an order be at once given
for the supply of 60 columns, At the price named.
(b.) That the estimate of Crompton & Co., Limited, to supply
Crompton-Pochin 10-ampere arc lamps, fitted with white
Muranese globes, at £15 6s. 10d. per lamp inclusive, be
accepted, and that an order be at once given for the supply
of 65 arc lamps of the description and at the price named.
(c.) That the positions of the arc lamps proposed to be erected
in the main thoroughfares, as shown on the plan now
submitted, be approved and adopted.
(d.) That the Vestry of St. George, Hanover Square, be asked to
contribute one half of the cost of providing and erecting five
lamps in Piccadilly and St. James's Street, on the boundary
of the two parishes, and of lighting and maintaining the
same, and that the Vestry of St. Martin-in-the-Fields be
asked to similarly contribute in respect of three lamps
proposed to be erected in Coventry Street.
STREETS PARTLY SITUATE IN OTHER
PARISHES.
An order was made by the Metropolitan Board of Works
on the 6th March, 1857, placing that portion of Oxford
Street, which is situate in the parish of St. James under
the jurisdiction of the Vestry of St. Marylebone for all the
purposes of the Metropolis Local Management Act. The
cost of lighting, paving, cleansing, watering, &c., that
portion of the thoroughfare is ascertained annually, and
paid by the Vestry.
By an order of the Metropolitan Board of Works, dated
the 10th August, 1866, specified sections of the followingthoroughfares
are placed under the exclusive management
of the Vestries of St. James and St. George, Hanover
Square, respectively, throughout the entire width thereof,

be moved and additional ones erected. The total number of lamps shown on the plan is as follows
