NEW SHELTER, GOLDEN LANE.
In anticipation of the agreement for the
tenancy of No. 6, Cotton Street, being about to
expire, the Sanitary Committee, in March last,
requested me to report as to the desirability of
taking down the then existing Chapel at the City
Mortuary, and adapting its site and the ground
around it to the requirements of a new Shelter.
After giving the matter careful consideration
I submitted sketch plans suitable, in my judgment,
for all present and future needs of a
Shelter proper, in combination with sufficient
space for the reception of cases in the possible
contingency of an outbreak of Asiatic Cholera
or other epidemic.
The authority for such provision was conferred
upon all Local Authorities by the Lords
of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council,
