Of the above, 148,088 tons were consigned
to Billingsgate Market, the remainder, viz.,
31,895, being delivered at the salesmen's shops
in the neighbourhood of the Market.
The decrease in the year's deliveries noted above
is occasioned by large a falling-off in the weight
of fish sent to the dealers outside the Market,
but there was a slight increase in the amount
consigned direct to the Market.
These figures can be more readily understood from the following Table :—
Year. | Fish Delivered at Billingsgate Market. | Fish Delivered in the neighbourhood of Billingsgate Market. | Total Deliveries. |
---|---|---|---|
1898 | 147,313 | 35,254 | 182,567 |
1899 | 148,088 | 31,895 | 179,983 |
