DAIRIES AND MILK SHOPS.
The Corporation of London is the Local
Authority in the City for the purpose of regulating
the sanitary condition of Dairies and Milk
Shops, under the Dairies, Cow Sheds, and Milk
Shops Order of 1885, and the work of inspection
is at present carried out by Officers appointed
by the County Purposes Committee.
I repeat the recommendation made in former
years that this duty should belong to the Public
Health Department—the Sanitary Authority for
the City—as a legally qualified Sanitary Inspector
is more competent to deal satisfactorily with the
matter than an Officer whose duties are confined
to the supervision of Weights and Measures.
During the year the Inspectors of Weights
and Measures visited 379 Dairies and Milk
Shops, being 13 more than in 1898. Of these,
349 were registered at Guildhall, 23 were
unregistered, and 7 either closed or demolished.
The occupiers of the unregistered premises have
since complied with the regulations.
