These buildings consist of 8 blocks inhabited bj 796
persons, viz., 670 adults, and 126 children under five years
of age.
There were 31 births, equal to a birth-rate of 38.9 per
1,000, and 12 deaths, corresponding to a death-rate of 15.0
per 1,000.
7 children died under 5 years of age.
3 deaths occurred from infectious diseases, viz., 1 from
whooping-cough, and 2 from diphtheria; equal to a zymotic
rate of 37 per 1,000.
3 of the total deaths occurred in Public Institutions.
The twenty-ninth Annual Report of the Trustees of the
Peabody Donation Fund states that up to the end of the
year 1893, the Trustees have provided for the artizan and
labouring poor of London, 11,273 rooms, besides bath rooms,
laundries, and wash-houses. These rooms comprise 5,070
separate dwellings. The number of persons in residence on
the 31st December last, was 19,937.
