The widening of the footway on the garden side of
Russell Square, which was commenced in 1887, when the
east and south sides of the Square were dealt with, was
continued on the west and north sides last year, the footway
being increased from 6 feet to 12 feet in width The four
sides of the Square are now of one uniform width of 12 feet.
It is an excellent improvement, and is much appreciated
by the public. The cost of the work is given in the above
table.
The following macadamised roads were re-coated with
broken granite, a steam-roller being used to level the
surface:—
Arthur Street. Huntley Street.
Bedford Square. Montague Place.
Brunswick Square. Russell Square.
Chenies Street. Upper Bedford Place.
