The Wedding of the Duke of York,
On the occasion of the marriage of His Royal Highness
the Duke of York with Princess May of Teck, a Committee,
consisting: of the Members of the Board and the Joint
Vestry, was organized to consider the best means of celebrating
the Royal Wedding in the District. The Special
Committee, at a meeting held on the 27th June, 1893, resolved
that an entertainment should be provided for the
whole of the children attending the Elementary Schools in
the District between the ages of 7 and 13 years.
Arrangements were made for taking the children to the
Crystal Palace, and on the 12th July the excursion took
place, when 1,426 children attended, accompanied by 61
teachers. The cost, £165 5s. 1d., was defrayed by voluntary
contributions to the extent of £160 2s. 6d.
At a meeting of the Board, held on the 26th September,
1893, the following resolution was passed:—It was moved
by Mr. Mayo, seconded by Mr. Berridge, and resolved
unanimously, “That the Board desire to express their
thanks to Mr. Henry C. Jones for the manner in which he
carried out the arrangements for celebrating the Royal
Wedding in the district.”
