LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL (IMPROVEMENT RATE OR
CHARGE) BILL.
This Bill proposed to empower the London County Council
to levy an improvement rate or charge in the Administrative
County of London, on the ground that the burden of the
cost of permanent improvements and works effected by the
Council unduly pressed on occupiers of houses and tenements.
The Bill passed through the House of Commons, but in
consequence of amendments introduced by the House of
Lords was not further proceeded with.
LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL (IMPROVEMENTS) BILL.
This Bill affected the St. Giles District so far as it proposed
to construct a new central street from High Holborn
to the Strand. After it was introduced into the House
of Commons the Council determined to strike out of the Bill
all the provisions relating to the street in question, and it is
therefore unnecessary to explain its provisions:
HAMPSTEAD, ST. PANCRAS AND CHARING CROSS RAILWAY
BILL.
This Bill proposed to confer further powers upon the
promoters of the Bill which received the Royal assent in
the year 1893 ; but the Board being of opinion that such
were unnecessary and would prove prejudicial to the interests
of the District, determined to oppose the Bill. As
soon as a petition against the measure was presented, the
promoters agreed to strike out all portions of the Bill referring
to the St. Giles' District, and in this amended form the
measure passed.
