Boards would be conducted as heretofore, and the annual
election of Members will therefore take place as provided
by the Metropolis Management Acts, on the first Wednesday
in June, and it will be necessary for the Board, at the
first meeting after the annual election of Members, to appoint
a Chairman for the ensuing year of office.
LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL (GENERAL POWERS) BILL.
This Bill proposes to confer further powers on the London
County Council, considerable opposition was offered to the
measure and ultimately it passed in an amended form. No
provision specially affecting the St. Giles District was
inserted.
LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL (SUBWAYS) BILL.
This Bill proposed to confer much greater powers on the
London County Council with regard to the Subways beneath
Public Streets than they had hitherto possessed. The
Board determined to oppose it, but the locus standi of the
Board was objected to by the London County Council, and
disallowed, and it was therefore impossible for the Board to
take any further part in the measure and in an amended
form it subsequently became law.
LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL (OPEN SPACES) BILL.
This Bill proposed, so far as the St. Giles District was
concerned, to enable the London County Council to compulsorily
acquire the gardens of Lincoln's Inn Fields, and to
transfer the powers vested in the Trustees by the Act
8 George II, cap. 26, to the Council. This part of the
Bill was ultimately rejected by the House of Lords.
Another Bill on the same subject has been since introduced
and has passed into law.
