BIRTHS.
The births registered during the year numbered
2,979 in all, viz., 1,515 of males, and 1,464 of
females. The birth-rate for the year was 24.26 per
1,000 persons, compared with one of 23.32 for 1894.
The male births were equal to a rate of 12.34 per
1,000 persons, and the female to one of 11.92. The
birth-rate for St. Mary's Sub-District was 27.88 per
1,000 of the population of the district, and that
for the Sub-District of St. John, 14.07. In 1894 the
birth-rate for St. Mary's District was 27.23, and that
for the District of St. John 12.62. There was therefore
an increase last year in the rates for the whole
Parish and the two sub-districts.
