The court consisted of 58 rooms, occupied by
41 families, numbering 122 persons of a rough
class, including children, or 2.1 persons per room.
The condition of No. 94, Bishopsgate Street,
was as bad as it could be, the walls and ceilings
of staircase were filthy, and the roof unsound, &c.
The general state of the houses in Montague
Court has always been under constant observation
by the Inspectors, and will ere long require
serious consideration, with a view to their demolition
or closure. At present, however, I think
they may escape such drastic treatment; in the
meantime, periodical cleansing and repairs will be
insisted upon, and the drainage kept in good order.
In 1893 and 1894 the majority of the dwellings
in Montague Court were provided with entirely
new pipe drains, and the remainder had their
drains properly repaired, trapped, and ventilated.
Appended hereto are the details of the
property and a Plan showing the existing state
of things.
