MONTAGUE COURT, BlSHOPSGATE
STREE1 WITHOUT.
The Court of Common Council being approached
thereon by certain inhabitants of the
district, referred it to the Sanitary Committee to
enquire into the sanitary condition of Montague
Court, Bishopsgate Street Without, it having
been alleged that the same was unwholesome
and permanently unfit for human habitation. I
was instructed to report thereon, and did so as
follows:—
In October, 1875, Montague Court was
included in my General Report to the Commissioners
of Sewers with 20 other insanitary
areas under the "Artizans" and Labourers'
Dwellings Improvement Act, 1875, but the
Commissioners took no action.
On the 13th of December, 1878, I further
reported to the Finance and Improvements Committee
on the same subject, and pointed out that
the previous defects had become aggravated by
delay. No measures were taken upon this
representation.
