It will be noted that deaths from violence
are steadily diminishing in the City.
The death rate for 1898 was 16.3 per 1,000
per annum of the population (the previous year
being 19.3), whilst that for the whole of the
Metropolis for 1898 was 18.7. These figures
are not corrected for sex and age distribution.
