It will be seen from the above that in 1898
1 in every 3.6 deaths in the City occurred in
one of the above-named Institutions, compared
with about 1 in every 6 in London under
analogous circumstances.
On searching our records I find that my
predecessor stated in his Annual Report for
1862 that the results of the previous ten years
showed that of every 100 deaths in the City,
14.5, or about 1 in every 7, were paupers who
died in City Workhouses.
The details of the deaths occurring in the
City will be found in Table A., compiled
in accordance with requirements of Local
Government Board.
DEATHS FROM VIOLENCE.
Of the City deaths, 7.1 per cent. were caused
by injuries or violence (as compared with 9.1 in
1897), being 2.1 below the average for the
previous four years.
