AUSTRALIAN SHEEP.
In June I inspected twenty carcases of Australian
sheep taken indiscriminately from 884
carcases seized by the Inspectors out of 1,500
which had been deposited on the market for
sale.
Further daily arrivals occurred up to the 11th
June, until 3,040 sheep were delivered, which
represented the total consignment from Queensland,
as shown by a sworn statement accompanying
the sheep dated from Townville, 17th
December, 1897, signed by the manager of a
Queensland Meat Export Company. The sheep
were shipped to this country on board the vessel
"Buteshire."
The seizures by the Inspectors commenced
on 26th May and ended on the 11th June,
and out of the whole consignment (3,040) no
less than 1,657, or 54 per cent., were so dealt
with.
